I got my hair done today. I’m also wearing a pretty nice dress. I have nothing to do tonight, and I live near a street with tons of restaurants and bars, and I thought I’d walk somewhere and get dinner and a drink. It’s Saturday night and it’s relatively nice out; why not?
Because my roommates are out, so I’d be walking alone.
Because it’s dark outside.
Because even though this is a nicer neighborhood, it’s still not a good idea for a girl with nice hair and a nice dress to be walking alone outside after dark. It’s not safe. It’s asking for it.
And all I can think is, this would not be a problem if I were a guy.
And they say rape culture doesn’t exist.
